Wrapping your vehicle with advertisements is an excellent way to garner exposure for your business. It’s like you’re driving around in a mobile billboard.
A good vinyl vehicle car wrap can draw attention. Certain vehicles are more suitable than others for wrapping. Some vehicle types might not have the desired space to accommodate essential information or branding yet can still draw attention for advertising. Any vehicle can be wrapped! But if the goal is maximizing your exposure choosing a vehicle with more surface area is your best bet.
Advertise passively with wraps
I always like to be careful when I use the word passive. Nothing comes without some degree of work before or after. I can confidently say advertising on your vehicle is passive.
The day to day driving, you usually do garners impressions without any additional driving to promote your business. Even when your vehicle is parked, it’s still being viewed by potential clients.
A friend of mine started a food catering business a few years ago. He decided to wrap the vehicle in a beautiful eyecatching design. He parked downtown in a crazy busy area of the city. for the day. Throughout the week, he received many calls inquiring about his services.
Here are some vehicle types best for wrapping!
Wrapping Vans (Sprinter style)
Sprinter style vans have become popular with business owners. These vans are compact yet offer room to operate a variety of businesses. People even convert and live in these vehicles like motorhomes!
These vans have the right amount of exterior surface space to show off any advertisement. They offer ample outer surface space from front to back. I’ve seen some pretty cool advertising done on these vans.
Wrapping pickup trucks
Trucks with extended cabs/crew cab or caps
Trucks are another great way to maximize the exposure of your business via wraps. They don’t have as much surface area as a van but still offer enough to draw attention. Trucks with a regular cab or no caps might not be ideal due to the significantly reduced exterior surface space.
Wrapping SUV’s
Similar to trucks with caps, you have ample exterior surface area to work with. Several years ago, I used to see many realtors drive fancy, fully wrapped SUV’s. In an oversaturated market, wraps are indeed a great way to help you stand out from the crowd!
Wrapping buses
Buses are great for wrapping! You have massive exterior surface space! I Know buses tend to have many windows
But even they can be wrapped. Buses haul many people, so you typically see them in densely populated cities or carrying people long distances. In my city businesses can pay to advertise on local buses.
Wrapping Box Trucks
Skys the limit with box trucks. You have a large canvas to make all your ideas come to life. I’ve seen some of the most amazing vinyl wrap done on Box trucks.
Wrapping sports cars
This might sound utterly contrary to what I’ve been saying about larger vehicles. But I would answer in specific situations sports cars are the exception. With minimal space, you would think how would you advertise anything effectively. Believe me, I’ve witnessed the effects of this. In the right context, it works!
I was in Miami back in 2017. And I saw a bunch of high-end cars driving up and down South Beach; I saw Lamborghinis Bentley’s, Bugattis, Porsches, and more. Some of the cars were wrapped with advertising; others had some basic business contact information on the vehicle.
The advertising read, “Rent this car for $100 an hour.” I thought this was a cool idea. I was so curious about how this performed. I walked into one of the local high-end car rental businesses to ask.
I don’t have any hard stats. But when I spoke to the lady at the service desk, she told me they perform quite well. She also added they get several people a week coming in the showroom that saw the ads on their cars.
This is a pretty passive way of advertising your business. No extra work needed. The same customers that are driving their cars are the same ones advertising for them.
There are a few reasons why I think this works! For starters, it’s South Beach! Everybody is trying to look their best no matter the cost. Also, people’s eyes are naturally drawn to nice sports cars.
Movies like Fast and the furious has helped make high-end cars iconic symbols. So when you see a nice sports car, you almost need to look.
Wrapping Trailers(Bonus)
Even though a trailer is technically not a vehicle, it works just like a vehicle in the sense of advertising. It’s pretty much only mobile when It’s being hauled by vehicle. A trailer typically has a massive surface area without windows. You can wrap right around! With a larger surface, you can expect to get more eyes on your vehicle from a further distance.
Another cool thing is that you don’t need to haul the trailer all the time! It gets exposure anywhere you park it!
I’ve seen people use trailers as a billboard.
This trailer I saw one day was parked right off the highway sitting on private property. This is a genius idea! You garner all the attention of a billboard without paying the rent that you would pay for a billboard.
