In recent news, Tesla has launched its new and modern twist on the pickup truck. They have taken a completely different approach to the design of the pickup truck.
History of the pickup truck
Pickup trucks have been around for over 100 years now.
Gottlieb Daimler invented the first truck-style vehicle in 1896 called no. 42. It also went by the name horseless wagon.
Throughout the years, it was also called the half-ton truck until people adopted the name “pickup” — mostly due to its ability to haul and transport heavy loads.
I know I’m giving you a bit of a history lesson, but please bear with me. The pickup truck gained popularity in 1925 when Henry Ford started mass producing them.
Ford has played a major role in terms of the similar look of pickup trucks we all know today. The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling pickup truck in the US for over 37 years.
In terms of the body of a pickup, it shares many similarities to traditional vehicles like deep recesses, contours, and curved edges.
Tesla takes the opposite approach. Straight lines, flat surfaces with a rigid profile. This unconventional approach will impact the market due to a lack of variety in the pickup truck industry.
Time-saving and easy to install
One area that eats up a vinyl installers time is working the vinyl into deep recesses. The vinyl needs to finessed or heated to form to the contours of the vehicle.
The cyber truck shape will allow the installer to place the wrap and quickly work it across the flat surfaces, which will save the installer time.
Easy to wrap rims
Similar to the body of the cyber truck, the rims feature a mostly flat surface with straight lines.
Because the entire(pun) rim is mostly made out of flat surfaces with no openings, you waste less material too. And you don’t need to spend a lot of time cutting out openings.
Stand out from the crowd
Due to the cyber truck being unique and new, it will be sure to turn heads in the streets. It will have a Lamborghini-effect! When it drives by people, they just want to stop, look, and even take pictures.
Now imagine wrapping it with a cool eyecatching vinyl. Many people will be intrigued! Amplifying impressions will lead to amplified inquiries.
This can lead to more referrals, which will give you more business.
Business wraps
I predict many businesses will start using the cyber truck as their primary work vehicle. Pickup trucks are popular work vehicles due to its ability to haul heavy items.
Many companies across America wrap their vehicles as opposed to painting. Because in most cases, it’s cheaper to wrap a vehicle. You also have the ability to use more intricate designs, and you don’t need to alter the original paint of the vehicle, which impacts the resale value.
Limited color selection
At this point, Tesla announced they would only be offering two colors at launch. With the limited color selection, wrappers will have the opportunity to dress up cyber trucks with a wide variety of colors. People pay well for uniqueness and the ability to stand out from the crowd.
We definitely vote Tesla’s Cyber Truck of being wrap worthy!
Do you think Tesla’s Cyber Truck will mean more business for vinyl wrap installers? I would love to hear your thoughts.
